Lift trucks are classified due to the types of aisles they have been designed to operate in. Narrow Aisle and Wide Aisle lift trucks are designed to turn in the aisle, whereas Very Narrow Aisle trucks actually don't turn within the aisle. There are certain aisle widths to consider with different models.
Very Narrow Aisle trucks could work in less than 6 feet areas, whilst some would use specific guidance systems like optical, rail or wire systems in order to travel in the aisles. Some different models of VNA trucks comprise Order Selectors, Turret Trucks and Swing Masts. These are common kinds in compact retail areas and in some storage and warehouse situations.
Narrow Aisle trucks can work within aisles from 8 feet to 10 feet wide. Usually these are stand-up units like Reach Trucks. They are commonly used in warehouses and storage facilities.
Wide Aisle Standard forklifts fall into this truck category and are designed to work within aisles that are more than 11 feet wide.
Stand-Up Ergonomics
The "Ergomat" padding on stand-up models provide padding on a sloped floorboard. These features are made to reduce operator fatigue by absorbing vibration. The compartment for the driver is spacious and has an 8" low step height which helps reduce overall body fatigue by easing frequent exit and entry. The unit includes polyurethane steer tires to absorb vibration and shocks caused by uneven floor in order to allow smooth travelling. For additional comfort, there is a floor mat and a cushioned armrest together with a backrest designed to help keep drivers comfortable and therefore more effective while limiting exhaustion.
The audible devices such as motion alarms or back-up alarms produce sound which has to be very loud to be heard above the sound that the forklift makes in the operating area.
The sound generated by the audio device should be distinguishable from other audible devices or sounds from the work setting. The sound must also be different from the other noise or audible devices in the work area. The audible device could employee noise exposure and end up contribute to OSHA noise limitation; therefore, care must be taken.
Determine the direction and distance the sound of the audible device is made more difficult due to the use of hearing protection. Audible devices could occasionally get deactivated from both operators and workers since they can find them really irritating. As well, audible devices could also be objectionable to residents nearby.
Additional Operator & Application Options:
Enclosed Operator Cabs: Operator enclosed cabs help to protect the operator from the elements. They utilize tempered glass so as to avoid injuries. Furthermore, these cabs feature an emergency exit through removing the window. The levels of noise are reduced at the operator's ear due to additional sound proofing.
Operator Selectable Performance Modes: The operator can choose the performance requirement for the specific use. As well, it allows a supervisor to set the unit's maximum performance for an operator who is just learning. Being able to adjust and lessen the unit's utmost performance allows a new operator to learn the machine's operating characteristics in a controlled environment.
Impact Monitor: When the impact monitor is disabled, a supervisor is needed to enable and override the model. This encourages the operator to be sure to manage the machinery in a more controlled manner.
Dual Rear View and Panoramic Mirrors: These mirrors serve as an aid to the operator in observing the tail swing area, as well as the operating environment behind the truck.
